How to decorate small spaces

Are you eternally complaining that you don’t have enough space at home? Take a look around, your home might look even smaller with the wrong pieces of furniture and hues. Think about it… less is always more! The colours you choose, the type of furniture and the decorative pieces will make all the difference in terms of adding personality to your small space.

Living and dining rooms make a solid statement about your style and personality. Keep it simple and minimal with neutral colours. A neutral colour palette throughout your home will give a spacious effect. Light greys, beige, off whites and ivory are perfect colours to decorate small spaces.   Don’t go overboard with large furniture. A 4 seater dining table is ideal with a glass top. The glass top adds a spacious vibe once again. Simple timeless designs are key. Loose the antique bulky furniture, get clean-cut designs. Choose a few decorative pieces that personify all four seasons. Remember keep it classy and simple, the space will miraculously look bigger.

Now let’s move on to accessorizing your home. Don’t you just want to purchase every little item you see at pottery barn or even at Target? But wait!! Don’t go cray cray with your home accessories. Choose a small neutral plain rug and keep in mind… No PRINTS! Printed rugs tend to give a more cramped look to your already small living space. Choose a simple, small coffee table and keep the ornaments small and simple. Stick to the same subtle colour palette. A little greenery adds a subtle statement while not being too loud. You can’t go wrong with this!

Now your personal sanctuary… The bedroom. This is where you have your creative thoughts, the place where you start a brand new day each day, your safe heaven… so make sure to keep it super simple. Don’t be disheartened by the small space. Once again keep the colours light and simple. You don’t need bedside tables on both sides, instead, have a little corner shelf as shown above. Keep the decorative pieces simple yet classy. The bed linen should match the same hues. Try whites, pastels or neutrals. Wall hangings should complement the “spacious” vibe you’re going for. Always keep in mind that you can make small spaces look bigger by changing the colours and adding simple furniture.

So go ahead… Start your redecorating project and let us know how it turned out 🙂
